Iloilo city: The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Iloilo is aiming to generate PHP35 million in revenue for 100 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) participating in the annual “Artesanias de Iloilo” event, which commenced at Robinsons Place Iloilo.
According to Philippines News Agency, Ma. Dorita Chavez, the DTI Iloilo Officer-in-Charge Director, emphasized that the trade fair and accompanying activities not only showcase traditional beauty but also highlight innovations that propel Ilonggo creativity. She remarked that “Artesanias de Iloilo” represents the artistry and resilience of MSMEs while balancing the preservation of tradition with innovation.
Chavez noted that the fair offers entrepreneurs a valuable platform to expand market reach, strengthen partnerships, and engage with customers who appreciate authenticity, quality, and creativity. The participating MSMEs encompass clusters focusing on coffee, cacao, bamboo, coconut, processed foods, and wearables and homestyle.
In her address, DTI Officer-in-Charge Regional Director Ma. Dinda Tamayo mentioned that since 2019, the trade fair has served as a venue for market testing and economic engagement for MSMEs. She highlighted the opportunity for participants to practice negotiation skills, enhance competitive advantages, and expand their entrepreneurship perspectives.
Tamayo acknowledged the crucial role MSMEs play as the backbone of the economy, adding that their contributions to job creation and economic stimulation are significant. She emphasized the government’s responsibility to remain relevant to the challenges faced by MSMEs.
The DTI has also organized daily side events, including a bamboo craft demonstration, food fusion demo, coco craft demonstration, bamboo planting, cacao and coffee demonstration, and a session on sustaining traditional crafts culminating in a fashion show.
