Manila: The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and its field offices across the country are on high alert to provide immediate aid to families and individuals during the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.
According to Philippines News Agency, Secretary Rex Gatchalian has directed all regional directors to ensure that field offices are prepared to assist citizens traveling to their provinces. Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao of the DSWD’s Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG) stated that the DSWD is equipped with sufficient relief items, such as ready-to-eat food, family food packs, and other essential supplies, to support individuals who may become stranded during their travels.
The DSWD’s Quick Response Teams (QRTs) are on standby nationwide, ready to respond to any untoward incidents or emergencies. The teams are also prepared to assist local government units if additional support is needed.
Dumlao emphasized the agency’s year-round commitment to disaster preparedness, stating that efforts continue even during ‘Undas’ to ensure that immediate assistance is available to citizens potentially affected by the influx of people traveling home to their provinces.
