Caraga: The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Caraga Region (DSWD-13) has initiated its Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP) for the academic year 2026-2027, commencing with the distribution of hot meal supplies to 73 local government units (LGUs).
According to Philippines News Agency, the SFP has a budget of PHP327.9 million for this year, aimed at delivering hot meals over 180 feeding days at PHP25 per child per day. This initiative targets 72,881 learners in Child Development Centers and supervised neighborhood play, providing essential nutrition support.
DSWD-13 emphasized its commitment to combating malnutrition and enhancing school participation among young learners in Caraga. The agency is coordinating with LGUs and conducting inventory checks to ensure effective program implementation.
Rosario Tablon, the SFP focal person in Nasipit, Agusan del Norte, highlighted the importance of organizing the smooth delivery of hot meal supplies. She noted that the program is particularly beneficial for children from disadvantaged households, assisting them in staying nourished and maintaining their energy for school activities.
The SFP is a crucial intervention by the agency to improve children's nutritional status and support their healthy growth and development. Through nutritious meals, the program aims to address malnutrition, promote better health outcomes, and enhance overall development and school participation among young learners.
