Dinagat islands: The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Caraga (DSWD-13) has replenished its stock of family food packs (FFPs) in three warehouses across Dinagat Islands. This logistical operation took place on Saturday, following the departure of three 10-wheeler wing vans loaded with 5,410 FFPs from the DSWD-13 field office in Butuan City at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Friday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the FFPs are designated to replenish relief stockpiles in the towns of Cagdianao, Dinagat, and San Jose. The agency emphasized that the newly delivered supplies are essential to ensure that food assistance remains readily accessible for those in need. "This proactive measure ensures that DSWD-Caraga remains ready to respond, with food packs available and assistance within reach when families need it most," the agency stated.

The replenishment comes as Dinagat Islands grapples with a severe water crisis, having been placed under a state of calamity earlier this week due to the prolonged dry spell. To manage the crisis, authorities have initiated water rationing in several towns to maintain a steady supply of potable water for affected residents.

In response to the ongoing water scarcity, the provincial government has commenced drilling operations and is installing solar pumps in areas with adequate water sources. The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council recommended declaring a state of calamity, highlighting the risk faced by approximately 18,000 residents in the island province as the water crisis worsens.
