Tarlac city: The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Tarlac 1st District Engineering Office has conducted an inspection of the Aquino Bridge in Tarlac City, following damage to a portion of the structure on Friday evening.

According to Philippines News Agency, the decades-old bridge sustained structural damage due to continuous rains caused by the southwest monsoon, known locally as habagat, and the strong current of the Tarlac River. The inspection took place around 12:10 a.m. on Saturday, shortly after a section of the bridge was damaged and closed to vehicular traffic at 11:56 p.m. on Friday.

To ensure public safety, the DPWH promptly installed barricades and deployed personnel for a structural assessment. Traffic restrictions were enforced at the Molave Y-junction in Barangay San Isidro to prevent buses, trucks, and heavy equipment from accessing the bridge, while the road remains open to local residents. Motorists have been advised to use alternative routes, such as the Agana Bridge, to navigate around the closure.

The DPWH stated that it continues to coordinate with local agencies to manage traffic flow effectively and is conducting a thorough study for the immediate repair of the bridge.
