Davao city: The Department of Social Welfare and Development-Davao Region (DSWD-11) is set to distribute over PHP 31.6 million in cash relief assistance to 6,329 public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers in Davao City starting Tuesday. The initiative aims to provide financial support to drivers impacted by rising fuel prices.
According to Philippines News Agency, DSWD-11 Director Rhuelo Aradanas announced that the three-day payout would continue until April 30. The beneficiaries include drivers of jeepneys, taxis, buses, and Transport Network Vehicle Services (TNVS), as well as those working in the service delivery sector. The distribution will take place at the Agdao Public Market, where the list of recipients will be displayed at the payout area. DSWD-11 will primarily serve as the paymaster during the event, while the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB-11) will be present to address any grievances.
Each qualified driver is entitled to receive PHP 5,000 under the DSWD's Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program. This national initiative aims to cushion vulnerable transport workers from fuel price hikes resulting from conflicts in the Middle East. To be eligible for the assistance, drivers must present a valid permit and a professional driver's license, both in original and photocopy forms, with three specimen signatures.
Aradanas highlighted the agency's role as a paymaster, ensuring the efficient delivery of funds to assist drivers in meeting basic household needs amid increasing operational costs.
