Manila: The construction of the PHP89-million new footbridge and concourse at the Kamuning Station of the EDSA Busway began Thursday. It is estimated to be completed by the end of the year.
According to Philippines News Agency, during the groundbreaking ceremony, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon stated that the project aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive from June to dismantle the steep ‘Mount Kamuning’ footbridge. The new EDSA Busway Kamuning Station and footbridge will incorporate mobility and accessibility features, including two elevators, two wheelchair lifts, and a pedestrian-friendly walkway.
The project will also feature tactile paving surfaces to assist visually impaired individuals and clear way-finding signage to aid other passengers and pedestrians. Dizon mentioned that the new footbridge would connect to the EDSA Busway Kamuning Station and resemble the SM North Concourse.
‘Sabi nga ng Pangulo, hindi na makakapaghintay ang mga komyuter natin. Matagal na silang naghihirap, kaya bibilisan natin ang construction nito (As the President said, commuters can no longer wait. They have been suffering for so long, so we have to accelerate the construction of this project),’ he said. He noted that the project would not inconvenience passengers and pedestrians as construction will be prefabricated.
