DOH to Initiate ‘Code White Alert’ for Upcoming Holy Week

Manila: The Department of Health (DOH) has announced the activation of its 'code white alert' starting March 30 to prepare for the Holy Week. This measure will ensure that DOH hospitals and health emergency teams are on standby around the clock to address road crash incidents, injuries, and other emergencies until April 6.

According to Philippines News Agency, the DOH has urged the public to prioritize health and safety during the Holy Week. DOH spokesperson Albert Domingo advised individuals to stay hydrated by drinking 7 to 8 glasses of clean and plain water daily, except for those under medical supervision. Additionally, people in need of assistance can reach out via the nationwide emergency number, 911.

The Holy Week is a significant period in the Philippines, marked by increased travel as many Filipinos take the opportunity to visit provinces or travel out of town. The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) anticipates approximately 6.5 million passengers at the 44 commercial airports it manages, with peak travel expected from March 28 to April 5.

Last year, there was a notable increase in passenger numbers during the Holy Week, with an 18 percent rise to 6 million from the previous year's 5.1 million during the same period.
