Dinagat islands: Dinagat Islands province was placed under a state of calamity Wednesday following the destruction caused by Typhoon Tino (international name: Kalmaegi). The Sangguniang Panlalawigan approved the declaration through SP Resolution No. 25-2666 based on a Rapid Disaster Assessment Needs Analysis (RDANA).
According to Philippines News Agency, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, chaired by Governor Nilo Demerey Jr., convened to outline priority actions. Priorities include restoring power, installing alternate communication networks, repairing the Cambinliw wooden bridge, and providing relief to isolated areas.
The council also approved deploying health and water sanitation services, assessing building integrity, and ensuring proper aid distribution. “The province of Dinagat Islands is working its best to ensure priority actions based on the RDANA recommendations,” Demerey said.
The assessment found 680 houses damaged in Tubajon, with significant damage also in Basilisa (25 percent), Libjo (8 percent), and San Jose (8 percent). Key infrastructure damage includes the impassable Cambinliw Bridge in Loreto and a 40 percent damage to the power plant on Gibusong Island.
The provincial agriculture office reported 90 banana plantations damaged in Loreto, with 10 percent coconut damage and two hectares of cassava lost.
