Dinagat Islands Provides P390K Financial Aid to College Students

Makati: The provincial government of Dinagat Islands has disbursed educational financial assistance to 156 students attending Caraga State University (CSU) in Butuan City. This initiative was personally overseen by Governor Nilo Demerey Jr., who reiterated the significance of education as a tool for poverty alleviation.

According to Philippines News Agency, the financial aid amounted to PHP390,000, with each student receiving PHP2,500 for the second semester of the Academic Year 2025-2026. Governor Demerey emphasized that this aid aims to alleviate the financial burdens faced by students and their families, covering daily expenses, school fees, and other educational needs.

Governor Demerey noted that this assistance is crucial in ensuring that students from Dinagat Islands remain in school and focus on their studies, avoiding dropout due to monetary challenges. He highlighted education's critical role in the provincial government's ongoing efforts to combat poverty, stating, "Education can lift everybody out of poverty. We are working to eradicate poverty, but let's start with education."

The governor also mentioned that the financial aid is an investment in the students' future, assuring them that the provincial government is prepared to support their employment once they complete their education. Earlier in the month, the provincial government released PHP10.6 million in scholarship funds to 537 students at Don Jose Ecleo Memorial College in Dinagat for the first semester of AY 2025-2026.

Governor Demerey explained that continuous educational support through scholarships and grants provides disadvantaged students with an opportunity to pursue higher education, enhancing their morale and demonstrating the provincial government's commitment to youth development.
