Dimasalang Bridge Rehabilitation Begins Alongside San Agustin Bridge Construction

Manila: The northbound lane of the Dimasalang Bridge in Manila will be temporarily closed for rehabilitation starting on Saturday, May 23, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced Thursday. The five-month rehabilitation work will include retrofitting of structural supports and replacement of the bridge slab, aiming to ensure the safety of motorists. The southbound portion of the bridge will remain open during this period to facilitate ongoing traffic.

According to Philippines News Agency, the DPWH has advised motorists to use alternative routes to mitigate potential traffic delays during the rehabilitation works. The project is expected to be completed by mid-October this year, as stated by the DPWH.

Meanwhile, the DPWH is also aiming to complete the construction of the San Agustin Bridge in Arayat, Pampanga within the same five-month timeframe. Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon, during his visit to the province, directed the completion of construction works for the bridge, which has been idle for eight years. This directive follows President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s order to expedite the bridge's construction, targeting an October completion.

Dizon, accompanied by Pampanga Vice Governor Delta Pineda and other officials, acknowledged the efforts of the local government unit (LGU) in resolving the right-of-way issue, which had previously stalled the project. He emphasized that the LGU's assistance has paved the way for the continuation of construction works. Once completed, the San Agustin Bridge is expected to significantly improve travel for motorists and commuters between Pampanga and Nueva Ecija.
