DILG Chief Lauds Albay Disaster Response Efforts

Legazpi city: Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla commended Albay’s disaster risk reduction management and response strategies, describing them as the “best in the country.”

According to Philippines News Agency, Remulla expressed his intention to implement institutional changes in disaster response, using Albay as a model for other regions. He highlighted the importance of focusing on zero casualties and preemptive measures, stating, “I came here not only to teach and help but also to learn. I studied the disaster risk reduction program of Albay, which is the best in the country.”

Remulla also engaged with local chief executives in Albay to foster stronger collaboration between the provincial government and national agencies, aiming to enhance the safety and resilience of Albay’s communities. He emphasized the importance of partnership, stating, “I want this to be a partnership. I said, if you want our help, we will also help you. If you buy one patrol vehicle, we will provide you with another.”

Additionally, Remulla announced plans to establish a unified 911 emergency response system nationwide, including Albay in its coverage. He stated, “We will launch a unified 911, and Albay will be included. Calls will be answered in your native language.”

During his visit, Remulla participated in a meeting with regional government agencies in the Bicol Region, including the National Police Commission, Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP). Albay Governor Noel Rosal showcased the province’s disaster response assets, emphasizing the role of collaboration in enhancing disaster preparedness and security.

Rosal expressed gratitude for Remulla’s visit, saying, “We are honored to welcome Secretary Remulla to Albay. His visit underscores the significance of partnership and cooperation in improving disaster preparedness and strengthening the security of our people.”
