DHSUD Launches New Housing Modality to Benefit 5,000 Under Expanded 4PH

Manila: Around 5,000 individuals are set to benefit from a new housing modality incorporated under the Expanded Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino (4PH) Program, the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) said Wednesday. DHSUD Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling has directed the Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC) to pursue and complete stalled urban housing projects, which will now be included as a new modality under the Expanded 4PH.

According to Philippines News Agency, Secretary Aliling emphasized the directive from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to provide more dignified housing for Filipinos by reviving and improving previously unfinished projects. The DHSUD, with its attached agencies, remains committed to expanding the 4PH program to enable more Filipino families to achieve homeownership.

As an initial step, the SHFC has identified three stalled vertical housing projects in Caloocan City that will be pursued and enhanced under the Expanded 4PH. These include the Alyansang Mamamayan ng Caloocan Housing Cooperative and Hopeville Phase 2 Homeowners Association Inc., both located in Barangay Bagumbong, and the Genesis Ville HOA Inc. in Barangay Camarin. These projects, which were approved during the administration of former president Benigno 'Noynoy' Aquino III, were intended primarily for informal settler families.

The three projects, serving as the first batch of vertical housing projects under the Expanded 4PH, consist of 35 low-rise buildings that were not fully completed. The SHFC will undertake improvements, including the development of open spaces and community facilities, to enhance the living conditions for future residents.

Aliling noted that these housing units have been awaited by Filipinos for more than a decade, and upon the directive of President Marcos Jr., efforts will be made to fast-track and improve them to ensure the safety and security of the beneficiaries. He added that more similar projects are expected to be awarded to beneficiaries under the Expanded 4PH program in the coming months.
