Dumaguete: The Department of Education – Negros Island Region (DepEd-NIR) is set to host the national learners’ convergence and career expo this month, welcoming 6,000 student leaders from across the country, an official announced on Tuesday.
According to Philippines News Agency, Dr. Ramir B. Uytico, the DepEd-NIR director, revealed in an interview that the 2025 Learners Convergence Philippines will take place from October 27 to 30. Concurrently, the 2025 National Career Expo is scheduled for October 27 and 28. These significant events will be held at various venues in the capital of Negros Oriental, with Education Secretary Sonny Angara expected to attend the opening ceremony.
Dr. Uytico explained that the learning convergence aims to provide training for student leaders, while the career expo focuses on guiding students in their career paths. In anticipation of these events, preparations are underway to ensure a successful execution.
Meanwhile, the assistant division superintendent of DepEd-Dumaguete, Dr. Juditha Mapue, mentioned that they have developed modules for students due to the suspension of face-to-face classes this month. This decision was made to accommodate the use of public schools for visitor lodging during the events.
Contingents for the Buglasan Festival, including participants of the Festival of Festivals scheduled for Friday, have already begun arriving and are staying at some schools. Public schools are also set to provide accommodation for the thousands of student leaders attending the convergence towards the end of October.
Dr. Mapue assured that the division is committed to addressing learning gaps for students due to the suspension of face-to-face classes. She noted that classes have also been disrupted by recent earthquakes in Cebu and Mindanao but reassured that alternative learning methods are being implemented to ensure the continuity of education for all students.
