Davao Light Takes Over 4 Substations and Office of Electric Cooperative

Davao city: The Davao Light and Power Company Inc. (DLPC) officially assumed control of the distribution assets of the Northern Davao Electric Cooperative (NORDECO) in Tagum City on Wednesday, following the implementation of a writ of possession.

According to Philippines News Agency, DLPC President and Chief Operations Officer Enriczar Tia announced that the writ, issued on February 27 under Republic Act 12144, expands the firm's franchise to cover additional areas in Davao del Norte and Davao de Oro. The court mandate led to the sheriff taking possession of four substations-three in Tagum City and one in Asuncion-and formally turning over control of these assets to DLPC. The turnover also included NORDECO's office in Barangay Magugpo of this city.

The turnover is supported by a ruling from the trial court that approved Davao Light's application to take possession of the mentioned assets. Tia stated that the court sheriff served a Notice to Vacate along with the Writ of Possession on March 16, 2026. This move is part of DLPC's preparations to begin operations in Tagum City and the rest of Davao del Norte, aiming to provide residents and businesses with reliable electricity service.

Tia expressed hope for the cooperation of NORDECO's Board of Directors and officers to facilitate a smooth transition, aiming to minimize disruption to customers and ensure the safety of field personnel. He emphasized that the four substations are crucial for delivering power from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines to consumers.

He also mentioned that this is the first step and that other legal processes are ongoing for DLPC to take possession of the entire distribution system and begin operations. Regarding the timeline, Tia stated they are awaiting further court decisions and hope for a prompt ruling to ensure efficient services.

Tia thanked NORDECO for respecting the court order and cooperating during the enforcement of the writ.
