Bacolod city: The city government is actively processing applications from Tricycle Operators and Drivers' Associations (TODAs) for cash relief assistance (CRA) provided by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), with the process beginning on April 8. The city's Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) has emphasized the importance of submitting the necessary requirements before the deadline set for Wednesday night.
According to Philippines News Agency, DSSD head Richelle Verdeprado-Mangga highlighted the urgency of completing the master list by the central office's deadline of March 26. The DSWD's CRA initiative aims to grant PHP5,000 to each driver-beneficiary to help mitigate the economic impact of escalating fuel prices on tricycle drivers and their families.
As of 2025, the Business Permits and Licensing Office recorded approximately 6,200 registered operating tricycles, but only 2,600 had secured a mayor's permit by March 2026. Mayor Greg Gasataya held a meeting with TODA officers and members to streamline the application process for the financial aid. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive database and urged TODA presidents to verify their membership lists to ensure inclusivity.
Gasataya also encouraged the inclusion of non-member drivers in the aid application to ensure support for all those affected by the crisis. In response to these efforts, Bacolod Barangay Banago TODA president Pedro Arib expressed optimism about the forthcoming financial support from the government. Arib also called on the city government to address unlicensed tricycle operations and urged drivers to formalize their registration with TODAs to further benefit from government assistance programs.
