Davao de oro: Davao de Oro has been celebrating the Bulawan (Golden) Festival for 19 years now, a homage to its standing as a province rich in gold deposits and agricultural products. The province's true treasure and the measure of its success can be traced to its people, Governor Raul Mabanglo said during the culmination program of the festival and the province's 28th foundation anniversary on Sunday.
According to Philippines News Agency, Mabanglo emphasized that the true treasure of the province is not found in mining but lies in its people. He expressed gratitude to the residents and stakeholders for their unity and unwavering support for the province. Mabanglo also commended the farmers and fisherfolk for sustaining food security, along with other sectors that contribute to progress and development.
Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Davao Region Director Ma. Mercedes Dumagan echoed Mabanglo's sentiments, agreeing that the 'bulawanong katawhan' (golden people) are the province's greatest treasure. She acknowledged the collaborative efforts of leaders and communities in ensuring development is anchored on service, ethics, and inclusivity, not just wealth.
Dumagan highlighted the importance of cultural heritage and environmental protection, praising Davao de Oro for its balance of sustainability and progress. She mentioned that true prosperity comes from protecting the environment while pursuing economic growth. The wisdom of indigenous communities, with their sustainable practices, continues to guide the province in tackling environmental challenges.
Dumagan called for continued empowerment of communities through investments in education, environment, livelihood, and the development of women and youth.
