Consulate Confirms Safety of Filipinos in Hong Kong Fire

Hong kong: All Filipinos who likely worked at the high-rise apartment complex affected by a deadly fire in Tai Po, Hong Kong, are confirmed safe and accounted for, the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong reported.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Consulate General announced that 92 Filipino nationals have been confirmed safe, with one individual injured and currently hospitalized. The advisory also mentioned that two overseas Filipino workers, initially listed for verification, were found to be in the Philippines at the time of the incident.

Earlier, the consulate confirmed the unfortunate death of a Filipino domestic worker, Maryan Pascual Esteban, in the fire. Esteban, who was planning to return to the Philippines for Christmas, leaves behind a 10-year-old son in Cainta, Rizal.

The blaze, which has been identified as the deadliest in Hong Kong in decades, resulted in 146 fatalities, with many still reported missing.
