Manila: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has announced that the filing of Certificates of Candidacy (COCs) for the 2026 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) will take place from September 28 to October 5. This schedule is part of Comelec Resolution No. 11191, which also outlines the calendar of activities leading up to the November 2 polls.
According to Philippines News Agency, the election period will span from October 3 to November 9. During this time, several activities will be prohibited. These include carrying firearms and other deadly weapons in public places, using private security personnel or bodyguards by candidates, organizing reaction or strike forces, suspending elective officials, and transferring or detailing civil service employees.
The campaign period is scheduled from October 22 to October 31. Within this period, certain actions are not allowed, such as removing or destroying lawful campaign materials, using illegal campaign propaganda, and giving cash or in-kind donations. Moreover, campaigning, selling and consuming liquor, and giving or receiving free transportation, food, drinks, or other items of value will be banned on the eve of the elections, November 1.
On election day, voting will occur from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. This will be followed immediately by the counting and canvassing of votes, and the proclamation of the winning candidates. The deadline for filing Statements of Contributions and Expenditures is set for December 2. The BSKE, under Republic Act 12232, is scheduled for the first Monday of November 2026.
