Bicol: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Bicol reported that it received 44,630 voters’ registration applications from August 1 to 3.
According to Philippines News Agency, Comelec-Bicol Director Maria Juana Valeza noted a noticeable interest among the youth in registering and participating in the Sangguniang Kabataan polls. She mentioned that there is a significant turnout of Gen Zs in the Bicol Region, indicating their interest in engaging with democratic processes.
Valeza highlighted that the applications received encompass new registrations, corrections of entries, reactivations, and changes or corrections in voters’ records. Camarines Sur led the registrations with 12,922 applications, followed by Albay with 12,373, Masbate with 7,927, Sorsogon with 5,584, Camarines Norte with 3,786, and Catanduanes with 2,038. The registration process is set to continue until August 10.
In the event of a postponement of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, Valeza mentioned that registration would resume in October 2025. Furthermore, Comelec Chair George Garcia stated that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is expected to sign a law on August 12, which will reschedule the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections from December 1 to November 2026.
