Comelec Halts Voter Registration in Antipolo for Upcoming Special Elections

Antipolo city: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has announced the suspension of voter registration activities in Antipolo City's second district as part of preparations for the forthcoming special elections. These elections are being organized to find a replacement for the late Representative Romeo Acop.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Comelec stated that voter registration activities will resume on March 22. The suspension is intended to allow the poll body to concentrate on the special election process. Only individuals who were registered voters as of December 20, 2025, will be eligible to participate in the special elections.

The second district of Antipolo City is home to approximately 300,000 registered voters, making it the largest congressional district in the Philippines in terms of voter registration. The candidate who secures the highest number of votes in the special elections will take office and complete the existing term in the 20th Congress, which concludes in June 2028.

Representative Acop's recent passing due to a heart attack has left the congressional seat vacant, necessitating the special elections to fill his position.
