Manila:Palace Press Officer Claire Castro has refuted reports suggesting her potential appointment as an associate justice of the Supreme Court, stating emphatically that she did not apply for the position.
According to Philippines News Agency, Castro clarified during a media briefing that there is no truth to the rumors. She emphasized her non-involvement in the application process for the role of associate justice, countering claims circulating amidst the emergence of Associate Justice Rodil Zalameda as a leading candidate for the chief justice position.
In response to inquiries about her potential appointment to the Supreme Court, Castro reiterated her stance that she had not pursued the position and labeled the reports as false. Additionally, she addressed speculation regarding President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s consideration of Zalameda for the chief justice role, underscoring her reluctance to speculate on the President's decision.
Castro expressed confidence in President Marcos's ability to choose a qualified candidate for the chief justice position. Following this, President Marcos will have 90 days to appoint the country's 28th chief justice.
