Manila: Low-cost carrier Cebu Pacific (CEB) on Wednesday launched a foundation that aims to boost resilience and advance sustainable tourism. Called the Cebu Pacific Foundation Inc. (CPFI), it will work with local organizations, private sector, civil society, development institutions, and the government to reduce disaster and climate risks, protect ecosystems, strengthen livelihoods, and create opportunities for sustainable local economies.

According to Philippines News Agency, CPFI chairman Xander Lao expressed the foundation's mission to connect communities with necessary resources and expertise to protect natural environments and enhance familial opportunities. Cebu Pacific, known for connecting people and places for three decades, aims to further this legacy through the foundation's initiatives.

CEB communications manager Marga Lera announced that CPFI's first major project, the Resilience and Inclusive Support for Empowerment (RISE) of Capiz Coastal Communities Project, began in July 2026 in Barangay Culajao, Roxas City. The project will extend to other areas in Roxas City and the municipalities of Ivisan and Panay in Capiz.

The RISE Capiz Coast Project will be implemented with Japan-based Futures, Inc., and the Zoological Society of London (ZSL). The project aims to restore 100 hectares of degraded coastal areas through mangrove rehabilitation, targeting 500 hectares by 2030. Local stewardship efforts in Barangay Culajao are led by the Katunggan sa Culajao Salbaron Association, Inc. (KACUSA).

KACUSA president Christopher Dasal expressed gratitude for the partnership, highlighting hopes for mangrove forest restoration, tourism revival, and economic strengthening. The CPFI invites collaborations with organizations and individuals dedicated to advancing environmental and economic outcomes through shared expertise, resources, and local leadership.
