CCC Seals New Partnerships to Strengthen Climate Action

Manila: The Climate Change Commission (CCC) has expanded its national climate network in a bid to further strengthen climate action, through a new set of multi-sectoral partnerships that place Indigenous Peoples, children, farmers, and youth at the center of the country’s climate resilience efforts.

According to Philippines News Agency, at the signing ceremony in Manila on Tuesday, CCC Vice Chairperson and Executive Director Robert E.A. Borje highlighted the significance of these partnerships as a reflection of the shared vision to tackle what he described as ‘the greatest challenge of our time’-the climate crisis. Borje emphasized the urgency of addressing increasingly severe tropical cyclones, prolonged droughts, and rising sea levels, which he noted are affecting lives, livelihoods, and the future.

Borje stated that the current decade is crucial for climate action and underscored the necessity of a collective response, involving various sectors of society, rather than relying on a single institution. He stressed that climate change requires a whole-of-society approach.

The new agreements involve several key partners, including the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) to ensure the inclusion of Indigenous Peoples in climate action, Save the Children Philippines for child-centered resilience and policy support, and the Governance Commission for Government-Owned and -Controlled Organizations to enhance climate compliance among state corporations.

Further partnerships were established with the University of the Philippines Los Ba±os for research and education, the Philippine Information Agency for public climate advocacy, Planoteerism for local climate action planning, Nueva Vizcaya State University for research capacity building, First Gen Corporation for resilience initiatives, and the United Nations-World Food Programme Philippines for disaster risk management and technical cooperation.

Borje expressed that these collaborations aim to convert commitments into tangible outcomes and contribute to building safer, more climate-resilient communities across the nation. He reiterated the need for extensive cooperation across various sectors and communities to achieve long-term climate resilience.
