7.4M applicants register in 7-month voter sign-up period

MANILA: Over 7.4 million individuals have applied as voters during the seven-month nationwide registration period for the May 2025 midterm elections. The latest data from the Commission Elections (Comelec) released Wednesday showed 7,427,354 applications were processed from Feb. 12 to Sept. 30. This, however, excluded Batanes province, which extended the voter sign-up until Tuesday due to Super Typhoon Julian. Fake “Tan Sri” Titles Prompt MDDM To Call For Police Reports

KUALA LUMPUR, The Council of Datuk Dato’ Malaysia (MDDM) announced today that it has recently received complaints about three individuals, including a woman, using fake ‘Tan Sri’ titles. Malaysians Lose US$12.8 Bln To Scams In A Year, Equivalent To Three Pct Of Nation’s GDP

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysians have lost a total of US$12.8 billion (RM54 billion) to scams in a year, representing three per cent of the country’s gross domestic product, said trust tech company Gogolook. In a joint statement today, according to the State of Scam Report 2024, it said 70 per cent of scam victims did not report their cases to the authorities, representing a five per cent drop from the previous year. ‘This highlights the growing skepticism regarding the effectiveness of reporting processes. From those surveyed, 32 per cent of the respondents have experienced loss of money from scams,’ it said.

FBM KLCI Futures Close Lower

KUALA LUMPUR, The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) futures contract on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives ended lower today. Spot month October 2024 and March 2025 shed 1.5 points each to 1,639.0 and 1,631.5, respectively, while November 2024 and December 2024 fell 2.0 points each to 1,640.5 and 1,643, respectively. Turnover rose to 6,827 lots from 4,743 on Wednesday, while open interest slipped to 47,874 contracts from 48,899 previously.
