Cabstars Triumph Over Protectors to Secure Solo Third Place in Spikers’ Turf Open Conference

Manila: AEP-Cabstars secured solo third place in the Spikers' Turf Open Conference after overcoming Alpha Insurance with a victory of 25-17, 25-21, 19-25, 25-21 at the Paco Arena. Jayrack De La Noche led the charge with 21 points, while Jared Schnake contributed significantly with 17 points and 12 excellent receptions, allowing the Cabstars to avenge their previous defeat from February 25.

According to Philippines News Agency, Mfena Gwaza added to the score with 11 points, including nine attacks and two blocks, while Michael Doria contributed 10 points. The AFP-Cabstars, now holding a 5-4 record, are set to face the Savouge Spin Doctors (6-2) in their final preliminary match on Friday at the same venue.

Head coach Kitty Antiporta praised the team's composure and improvement, attributing their success to the strong bond and chemistry among the players. "Our standing is better because today was a good win," Antiporta stated, expressing confidence in the team's potential as they prepare for their next matchup.

Former national team setter EJ Casana played a pivotal role in orchestrating the offense with 29 excellent sets and a game-high four blocks. Vince Lorenzo was instrumental in defense, achieving 17 digs and 21 receptions.

Despite the efforts of Ranz Cajolo, who scored 16 points, and Edward Camposano with 14 points, the Protectors suffered their second consecutive loss, dropping to fourth place with a 4-5 record. Alpha Insurance will face VNS Always Bright Laticrete in their concluding elimination match.
