Bulacan: Heavy rains from the southwest monsoon and the onset of the rainy season caused significant flooding in several areas of Bulacan on Saturday night, leading to the overflow of the Marilao River. Despite these conditions, the water level at Angat Dam, a crucial water source for Metro Manila, remained below its minimum operating level.
According to Philippines News Agency, data from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) indicated that as of 6 a.m. Sunday, the water elevation of Angat Dam was recorded at 167.80 meters, a decrease from the previous day's 168.10 meters. The minimum operating level for Angat Dam is 180 meters, which highlights the continuing challenge of water supply for the region.
PDRRMO chief Manuel Lukban noted that the drop in Angat Dam's water level occurred despite the scattered heavy rain showers across various parts of Bulacan on Saturday night. The dam's ability to recover its water elevation remains a concern for local authorities.
Marilao Mayor Jem Sy reported to the Philippine News Agency via text message that the overflow of the Marilao River prompted several residents to evacuate to a local shelter. Fortunately, the flooding subsided within a few hours, allowing evacuees to return to their homes.
