Surigao: Customs authorities destroyed a total of 2,690 reams of assorted cigarettes as part of its intensified crackdown against smuggling and proliferation of illicit tobacco products.

According to Philippines News Agency, the BOC-Port of Surigao reported that cigarettes worth over PHP1.149 million were destroyed on August 12, in accordance with customs laws, rules, and regulations governing the disposition of seized and forfeited goods. The illicit tobacco products were previously turned over to the Bureau of Customs (BOC) for proper disposition.

The cigarettes were forfeited on November 20, 2025, and March 9, 2026, and were covered by Warrants of Seizure and Detention (WSD). They were found to violate Section 1401, in relation to Section 1113(f) and (l-1 and 5) of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).
