Davao city: The number of registered live births in the Davao Region fell by about 7.2 percent in 2024, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) 11 (Davao Region) on Tuesday. Data released by the agency showed 68,290 births in 2024, marking a 7.2 percent decrease from the 73,622 births recorded in 2023.
According to Philippines News Agency, on average, 188 babies were born each day, or about eight per hour, across the region. The sex ratio leaned slightly toward males, with 35,375 boys (51.8 percent) compared to 32,915 girls (48.2 percent), translating to 107 males for every 100 females.
PSA-11 noted that the highest number of births occurred in the last quarter of the year, with October leading with 6,383 births, followed by September (6,320), December (6,293), and November (6,257). 'Davao City accounted for the largest share of births at 34.4 percent, or 23,507 babies,' the agency added.
Other provinces contributed as follows: Davao del Norte (21.4 percent), Davao de Oro (15.7 percent), Davao del Sur (13.4 percent), Davao Oriental (11.8 percent), and Davao Occidental (3.3 percent). PSA-11 emphasized that 98 percent of births were attended by medical professionals, underscoring the region's strong access to maternal and child health services.
