BIR Optimistic on Attaining 2025 Collection Target

Manila: The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) is optimistic that it will achieve its revenue collection target for this year. During the recent Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon briefing, BIR Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr. expressed confidence in reaching the set goals through the agency’s programs, the dedication of its employees, and the cooperation of taxpayers.

According to Philippines News Agency, Commissioner Lumagui emphasized that the efforts put forth in the first few months of the year have already shown promising results. From January to March, the BIR reported favorable collection figures, setting a positive tone for the rest of the year. Last year, the agency collected PHP2.85 trillion, surpassing its target for the first time in two decades. This year, the BIR is expected to collect PHP3.23 trillion.

To enhance tax collection and address tax evasion, the BIR is intensifying its efforts. As part of its initiatives, the Run After Fake Transactions (RAFT) program has been instrumental in filing tax evasion cases against individuals using counterfeit receipts. Lumagui noted that many cases have been successfully filed with the Department of Justice, which has supported the BIR and initiated criminal proceedings in court. The agency remains vigilant in pursuing additional cases against those involved in fraudulent activities, continuing to audit and prosecute offenders.
