General santos city: The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has extended the deadlines for tax filing, payment, and document submission in General Santos City, Sarangani, and South Cotabato, which were recently affected by a significant earthquake.
According to Philippines News Agency, under Revenue Memorandum Circular (RMC) No. 62-2026, the BIR announced that deadlines originally set from June 8 to June 29, 2026, have been extended to June 30, 2026. Taxpayers who comply with the extended deadlines will not face penalties, surcharges, or interest for late submissions, provided that all tax returns, payments, and documents are submitted within the new timeframe.
BIR Commissioner Charlito Martin Mendoza stated that the President has mandated a comprehensive government response to assist the impacted communities and expedite recovery efforts. He emphasized that the extension is intended to offer affected taxpayers additional time and flexibility as various stakeholders, including families, businesses, local governments, and national government agencies, address urgent needs and recovery tasks.
Revenue Region and Revenue District Offices in the affected areas have been instructed to inspect their facilities, ensuring that workplaces are safe and ready for regular operations to resume. The extension comes in the wake of a powerful magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck off the coast of Maasim, Sarangani. The earthquake caused extensive damage across parts of Mindanao, notably in General Santos City, Sarangani, and South Cotabato, and was followed by numerous aftershocks. Government agencies are actively involved in emergency response and recovery operations.
