Clark: The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) is firming up projects to boost Clark's capacity as an aviation hub, an official said Thursday. BCDA President and Chief Executive Officer Joshua Bingcang revealed plans for significant developments aimed at enhancing Clark International Airport's (CRK) infrastructure and operational capabilities.
According to Philippines News Agency, Lufthansa Technik Philippines (LTP) has proposed a USD400-million investment to construct a maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility at Clark Aviation Capital. This joint venture between Lufthansa Technik AG and MacroAsia Corp. seeks a 15-hectare site at CRK under a proposed 25-year term, with the possibility of extension. Bingcang indicated that negotiations are expected to conclude within the quarter, with the construction of the facility projected to be completed in three years.
BCDA is also strategizing the construction of a second runway and the expansion of the apron at CRK to accommodate Federal Express Corp.'s (FedEx) expansion plans. Currently, FedEx operates three to four daily flights at CRK, but the company aims to increase this to 20 flights with a new USD80-million facility spanning approximately 80,000 square meters. The apron construction is scheduled to commence this year and is expected to take about 18 months, while the second runway will have a three-year completion timeline, funded by BCDA. Bingcang noted that FedEx has already selected a builder and is in the process of securing necessary permits.
