BARMM Provides Assistance to 5,000 Displaced by Tawi-Tawi Fire

Bongao: The Bangsamoro government dispatched on Wednesday aid for about 5,000 individuals displaced after a fire destroyed more than 1,000 homes in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi. The fire in Barangay Lamion began at about 10 p.m. Tuesday and was extinguished by 2 a.m. Wednesday. Victims are temporarily housed at the Mindanao State University gym and a provincial quarantine area.

According to Philippines News Agency, Bangsamoro Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua expressed sympathy and ordered regional disaster and social services units to provide assistance. "On behalf of the Bangsamoro government, I extend my deepest sympathy to the families and residents who have suffered immense loss. I am deeply grateful that no lives were lost, a blessing we must never take lightly," Macacua said in a statement.

The Ministry of Social Services and Development is leading the immediate response to the emergency needs.
