Baguio Considers PHP50,000 Cash Incentive for Long-Married Couples

Baguio: The city government is contemplating offering a PHP50,000 cash gift to couples who have reached the milestone of 50 years of marriage.

According to Philippines News Agency, Councilor Leandro Yangot Jr. expressed that with the rising number of separations and declarations of nullity in marriages, it is important to recognize couples who have upheld their vows for life. The proposed incentive is aimed at celebrating and honoring couples who have demonstrated commitment to their marital promises.

To be eligible for this incentive, both spouses must be alive, should have resided continuously in Baguio for at least a decade prior to the application, and must present a valid marriage certificate issued by either the Philippine Statistics Authority or the Local Civil Registrar. The initiative will only acknowledge the first and legally registered marriage, and the couple must have lived together faithfully as husband and wife in the same household.

The initiative is designed to act as a token of appreciation from the city government, acknowledging the couples' contributions to maintaining the sanctity of marriage. Councilor Yangot emphasized that the cash gift is intended to honor their enduring union and their role in bolstering family life and social stability within the city.
