Antique: The Antique provincial board, through a resolution, has called for a proactive campaign against dengue as the rainy season begins. Board Member Gaseva Recopuerto introduced the resolution during their regular session, emphasizing the necessity for a province-wide proactive approach due to dengue being a prevalent mosquito-borne disease.
According to Philippines News Agency, Recopuerto highlighted that the rainy season increases dengue transmission risks due to frequent rainfall, flooding, and water accumulation, creating favorable conditions for mosquito breeding. Stagnant water serves as breeding grounds for mosquitoes, which poses significant health risks, especially to children, senior citizens, pregnant women, and immunocompromised individuals. If not promptly addressed, dengue can lead to severe complications or even death.
Recopuerto stressed the need for coordinated intervention among the Provincial Health Office (PHO), Municipal Health Offices (MHOs), barangays, schools, government agencies, civic organizations, and communities to prevent a surge in dengue cases across Antique Province. The resolution encourages these entities to intensify prevention campaigns, conduct regular information dissemination, community clean-ups, and monitor potential mosquito breeding sites.
Antique Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) Health Education and Promotion Officer Irene Duldoco reported that the province has recorded 216 dengue cases with no deaths from the start of the year until May 30. This number is notably lower than the same period in 2025, which saw 1,670 cases and five deaths. Duldoco advised households to regularly observe the 4S measures: search and destroy mosquito breeding places, secure self-protection, seek early consultation, and support fogging and spraying to prevent any impending outbreak.
