Agusan Sur Leads Medal Standing in Caraga’s 2026 Regional Games

Surigao city: Agusan del Sur province is leading the medal tally in the ongoing Caraga Regional Athletic Games 2026 (CRAG 2026) in Surigao City. As of Wednesday morning, Agusan del Sur garnered 129 medals, including 54 gold, 42 silver, and 33 bronze.

According to Philippines News Agency, Butuan City ranks second with 94 medals (38 gold, 21 silver, 35 bronze), while Agusan del Norte holds third place with 70 medals (25 gold, 28 silver, 20 bronze). The CRAG 2026, which formally opened last Sunday, will culminate on March 20.

Aside from Agusan del Sur and Agusan del Norte, the medal standings of other provinces in the ongoing games include Surigao del Norte with 45 medals (13 gold, 16 silver, and 16 bronze), Dinagat Islands with 10 medals (6 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze), and Surigao del Sur with 42 medals (4 gold, 12 silver, and 26 bronze).

Among the cities, aside from Butuan City, the medal standings are: Surigao City with 83 medals (19 gold, 38 silver, and 26 bronze), Bayugan City with 39 medals (13 gold, 10 silver, and 16 bronze), Bislig City with 26 medals (4 gold, 7 silver, and 15 bronze), Tandag City with 7 medals (2 gold, 1 silver, and 4 bronze), and Cabadbaran City with 16 medals (1 gold, 7 silver, and 8 bronze).

Athletes from the Dinagat Islands, known as the Mighty Dragons, made a surprise medal haul starting Tuesday, from 1 medal (1 gold) to an overall standing of 10 medals on Wednesday, including 5 additional gold medals, 1 silver, and 16 bronze. Among the athletes who contributed to the province's medal tally was Jefson Abatas, who won a gold medal on Wednesday in the Archery Secondary Boys - 30 meters category. Additionally, Princess Kyle Tellor earned a silver medal in the Arnis Secondary (Pinweight Combative) category.

Meanwhile, Agusan del Sur Governor Santiago Cane Jr. welcomed the performance of the province's athletes in the ongoing regional games, emphasizing the results of sustained investment in sports development. "We are now seeing the fruits of our efforts, our preparations, and the support we have provided to our athletes, especially the facilities they need in preparation for major competitions," Cane said in an interview with a local radio station Wednesday.

Agusan del Sur will host the 2026 Palarong Pambansa in May.
