Manila: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) announced Tuesday that President Masato Kanda has been reappointed unanimously for a second term by all 69 member economies. Kanda's new term will span five years, beginning on November 24. He was the sole candidate in the election.

According to Philippines News Agency, Kanda, a Japanese national, expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him by the members during this critical period in the region's history. Japanese Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama stated her hope that under Kanda's leadership, the ADB will continue to provide robust support for the region's sustainable growth and development, working closely with its member countries.

Kanda previously served as Japan's vice finance minister for international affairs, making him the country's top finance diplomat. He assumed the ADB presidency in February 2025, completing the term of his predecessor, Masatsugu Asakawa, who was also Japanese. Japan, as one of the largest contributors to the ADB, has maintained a dominant presence in its presidency since the bank's establishment in 1966.
