80 Seats Announced for First BARMM Parliamentary Polls, Says Comelec

Manila: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has announced that 80 seats will be available for the first Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Parliamentary Elections (BPE).

According to Philippines News Agency, the Comelec en banc has outlined the seat allocation in Resolution No. 11199, with the election slated for September 2026. The BARMM Parliament will be comprised of 40 Party Representatives, 32 District Representatives, and 8 Sectoral Representatives.

The Comelec stated that the 40 representatives of political parties will be chosen through a proportional representation system. Meanwhile, 32 representatives will be elected from single-member parliamentary districts, apportioned for the areas and as provided by the Parliament.

The distribution for district representatives is as follows: four seats for Basilan, nine for Lanao del Sur, five each for Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur, four for Tawi-Tawi, three for Cotabato City, and two for the Special Geographic Area.

Additionally, eight seats are dedicated to sectoral representatives, which include two for non-Moro Indigenous Peoples, two for settler communities, and one each for women, youth, traditional leaders, and ulama.
