Bi±an city: The Social Housing Finance Corp. (SHFC) has formally awarded 80 housing units to members of The Meadow community who were displaced by the Department of Transportation's (DOTr) railway rehabilitation project under the North-South Commuter Railway Extension (NSCR-Ex). This initiative is part of a broader effort to provide resettlement assistance to families affected by the project.
According to Philippines News Agency, the SHFC announced in a news release that these housing units are just the beginning, with plans underway to turn over an additional 312 completed units to other beneficiaries. The housing project, located in Barangay Langkiwa, aims to offer safe and decent homes to approximately 2,030 families impacted by the railway extension.
This housing support forms a significant component of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s expanded Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino (4PH) Program, managed by the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD). The turnover ceremony in Bi±an City was led by SHFC Resettlement Services Group Operations Manager Ren Nakpil, Bi±an City Mayor Angelo Alonte, and DOTr Assistant Secretary Irish Calaguas.
Mayor Alonte emphasized the crucial role of collaboration between local and national government bodies in elevating living conditions through sustainable housing initiatives. Messages of support and gratitude were also shared by DOTr-DHSUD Project Management Office Manager Alvid Reyes and Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor Undersecretary Michelle Anne Gonzales.
The SHFC has reiterated its commitment to partnering with the DOTr, local government units, and other relevant agencies to ensure the provision of secure, affordable, and decent housing for communities impacted by major infrastructure developments.
