6ID Pays Tribute to Soldier Killed in Maguindanao Sur Clash

Maguindanao del sur: The Army's 6th Infantry Division (6ID) paid tribute Thursday to a soldier who died while fighting local terrorists in Maguindanao del Sur. 'Today, we honor and remember Corporal Ryan Jun Bagual for his ultimate sacrifice for the country,' Maj. Gen. Vladimir Cagara, Army's 6ID commander, said in a statement.

According to Philippines News Agency, Bagual, who hails from President Quirino, Sultan Kudarat, was a member of the Army's 90th Infantry Battalion (90IB). He was among the Army units pursuing the Dawlah Islamiya (DI)-Hassan Group in Datu Hoffer Ampatuan, Maguindanao del Sur on Wednesday. His companion, Pfc. Jake C. Janiel of Libungan, North Cotabato, was injured in a firefight between them and the DI terrorists in Barangay Tuayan Mother, Datu Hoffer town. Casualties on the side of the terrorists are yet to be determined.

Cagara, also the Joint Task Force Central (JTFC) chief, lauded the bravery of Bagual, who gave his life for his country. 'The heroism that Cpl. Bagual displayed in protecting the nation gave honor, not only for his unit, the 90IB and 6ID, but to the whole Armed Forces of the Philippines,' Cagara said. To the family of the slain soldier, Cagara said the Army will never forget his sacrifices and vowed no letup in the operation against the terror group. 'We will continue hunting them until they are eradicated,' he said.
