Manila: A four-day memorial service has been organized this week for former Tacloban City mayor Alfredo ‘Bejo’ Romualdez, who was the younger brother of former First Lady Imelda Romualdez-Marcos and the uncle of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. Incumbent Mayor Alfred Romualdez, the son of the deceased, has invited family, friends, and supporters to pay their final respects from October 22 to 25, 2025, at the Santo Ni±o Shrine and Heritage Museum in Tacloban City.
According to Philippines News Agency, the announcement of the memorial service schedule was made on Wednesday, following the passing of the 91-year-old former mayor on October 17. “Former Mayor Bejo peacefully joined our Creator after a life dedicated to service, compassion, and unwavering love for the people of Tacloban City. He will forever be remembered for his humility, kindness, and steadfast commitment to the welfare of his fellowmen,” stated Mayor Romualdez in the official statement.
Alfredo Romualdez served as the mayor of Tacloban from 1998 to 2007. During his tenure, he initiated several significant projects, including the construction of the Tacloban City Convention Center, the expansion of the Tacloban public market, and the relocation of the public transport terminal from the city’s downtown area to the Abucay district.
The Santo Ni±o Shrine and Heritage Museum, the venue for the memorial service, is a historical landmark in Tacloban. It was constructed between 1979 and 1981 by then First Lady Imelda Marcos.
