4.5K Cubic Meters of Drainage in Metro Manila Declogged, Reports DPWH

Manila: The Department of Public Works and Highways - National Capital Region (DPWH-NCR) announced on Saturday that more than 4,500 cubic meters of drainage systems in Metro Manila have been successfully declogged. This significant effort is part of a comprehensive initiative to improve water flow and mitigate flooding risks across the region.

According to Philippines News Agency, the DPWH reported that by the third week of March, approximately 99.5 percent, or over 4,584.47 cubic meters, of drainage in 48 different locations had undergone declogging. Additionally, the department noted that about 15.95 percent, translating to more than 28,008.28 cubic meters, of waterways in 31 areas have been desilted as part of their ongoing operations.

The activities undertaken include cleaning esteros, dredging and hauling spoils, declogging and cleaning drainage inlets and laterals, manually declogging drainage lines, and desilting waterways. These efforts are encapsulated under the 'Oplan Kontra Baha' program, which aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to ensure efficient water flow on major roads in Metro Manila.

The 'Oplan Kontra Baha' program is conducted weekly, aiming to enhance the safety and living conditions of communities within the National Capital Region.
