Manila: Davao del Sur Some 3,000 farmers in Davao del Sur have benefited from the Department of Agriculture-Davao Region's (DA-11) hybrid rice seed caravan. The initiative aims to enhance rice productivity and strengthen local rice production across the province.
According to Philippines News Agency, the caravan has reached key municipalities such as Bansalan, Magsaysay, Matanao, Padada, and Sulop. These areas have been provided with quality hybrid rice seeds to boost yield performance. Magsaysay recorded the largest allocation with 1,470 hectares supported, followed by Matanao with 1,300 hectares and Bansalan with 1,000 hectares. Meanwhile, Padada and Sulop covered 132 hectares and 112 hectares, respectively.
The DA-11 has stated that the expansion of the hybrid rice seed caravan is part of its efforts to improve rice productivity during the upcoming wet cropping season. The agency conducted distribution activities covering 1,900 hectares in Hagonoy from May 5 to 7. On May 19, the caravan is scheduled to move to Malalag, targeting an additional 40 hectares of rice area.
The DA-11 has assured that the distribution will ensure all targeted farmer-beneficiaries receive timely assistance ahead of the wet cropping season. This initiative is part of the Department of Agriculture's push for rice sufficiency by providing free or subsidized high-yielding seeds and fertilizer to registered farmers.
