DTI to Impose PHP14 Safeguard Duty on Imported Cement

Manila: The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will impose the safeguard duty amounting to PHP14 per 40-kg bag of cement, based on the recommendation of the Tariff Commission, for the next three years. According to Philippines News Agency, DTI Secretary Cristina Roque stated that the safeguard duty on Ordinary Portland Cement Type 1 and Blended Cement aims to ‘level the playing field between domestic manufacturers and importers’. She emphasized that this duty is not expected to be passed on to consumers, as it applies solely to imported cement, accounting for about 3 percent to 4 percent of prevailing retail

Ilocos Norte Expands Demo Farms for Taiwan Garlic Varieties

Ilocos norte: Taiwan garlic cultivation is being tested in various towns in Ilocos Norte in an effort to boost garlic production using advanced farming techniques. Chonito Baldovi, high value crops development program coordinator of the Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO), told the Philippine News Agency on Tuesday that land preparations are ongoing for the planting of at least three Taiwan garlic varieties in Ilocos soil.
