Bill giving senior citizens 20% off on road toll fees pushed

MANILA: Quezon City Rep. Marvin Rillo wants to expand the transportation and road use privileges of the country’s senior citizens by granting them a 20 percent discount on the toll fees levied by expressway and skyway operators.   “Senior citizens who own motor vehicles deserve special access to skyways and expressways, including a 20 percent reduction in toll charges,” Rillo said in a news release on Sunday.   As proposed by Rillo in House Bill No. 5277, senior citizens would enjoy 20 percent off all toll fees payable via radio frequency identification (RFID) or similar devices.   To avail of

OPAPRU hopeful demise of Sison will end insurgency

MANILA: The Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) on Sunday said it is hopeful that the death of Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) founder Jose Maria “Joma” Sison will put an end to the local communist insurgency which has largely stalled development in the countryside.   “With the death of Mr. Sison, it is our hope that it will also put an end to the local communist armed conflict that claimed the lives of so many Filipinos and pushed back development in the countryside,” OPAPRU chief Carlito Galvez Jr. said in a statement Sunday.
