‘Amihan’ to bring rains over Luzon

Jordan bans TikTok amid protests over fuel prices

AMMAN, Jordan: Jordan has imposed a temporary ban on popular social media platform TikTok amid violent protests over fuel price hikes.   In a statement, the Public Security Directorate said the widely used but controversial platform was suspended as it was used “for glorifying hate speech and for inciting chaos, attacking law enforcement agencies, and property and blocking roads.”   “The authorities will refer anyone who commits such crimes to justice,” it warned.   The statement said the TikTok platform was misused by users “to promote videos falsifying current events.”   Tension has been running high in Jordan amid a

Baliwag in Bulacan now a city

MANILA: Baliwag in Bulacan province is now a city.   In a statement on Saturday night, Commission on Elections (Comelec) spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco said over 75 percent or 17,814 of 23,562 registered voters said “yes” to the conversion of Baliwag town into a component city of Bulacan during Saturday’s plebiscite.   A total of 5,702 or 24.19 percent of voters voted “No”.   The number of voters who participated in the referendum was only 21.70 percent of the 108,572 registered voters in Baliwag.   The plebiscite was set after the ratification of Republic Act 11929 in July 2021.
