BTr fully awards 10-year T-bond

The Bureau of the Treasury (BTr) fully awarded the 10-year Treasury bond (T-bond) on Tuesday despite a rate uptick.   The average rate of the debt paper rose to 7.344 percent from 6.703 percent previously.   “Full award seeing rates are within secondary levels for comparable maturities,” National Treasurer Rosalia de Leon told journalists in a Viber message.   The BTr offered the T-bond for PHP35 billion and tenders reached PHP58.411 billion.   It has rejected bids for government securities in the past weeks due to high-yield demand from investors.   De Leon said the rejections during the weekly auctions

Police file raps vs. 5 suspects in principal’s rob-slay in Bicol

The Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO-5) has filed robbery with homicide charges against the five suspects behind the robbery incident that killed a public high school principal last Oct. 12.   In a statement Tuesday, PRO-5 chief Brig. Gen Rudolph Dimas said the suspects are facing charges filed before the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office of Ligao City on Monday.   “With the identification of the suspects, it is now easy for us to locate the suspects. Rest assured that justice will be given to the victim’s family in no time. We will launch operations against them under our manhunt efforts,”

Iran backs proposal on nuclear weapons convention

Iran supported the Non-Alignment Movement’s (NAM) proposal on a comprehensive nuclear weapons convention.   In a United Nations General Assembly meeting on Monday, Heydar-Ali Balouji, a diplomat in Iran’s permanent mission in the UN, said the repeated failures of revision in the Treaty on the Non‑Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) showed that there was no vision for complete elimination of nuclear arms.   Nuclear disarmament has been on the international agenda since 1946 when the General Assembly adopted its first resolution calling for the elimination of nuclear weapons and since the NPT entered into force in 1970, Balouji said.
