DPWH conducts clearing ops in Karding-hit areas of C. Luzon

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is conducting clearing operations in some areas in Central Luzon which were hit by Super Typhoon Karding.   Based on the situational reports coming from the DPWH District Engineering Offices in the region on Monday, there are some road sections that were closed to traffic due to floods, landslides, mudslides, and other obstructions caused by the fury of the typhoon.   In Nueva Ecija, half lane of the Daang Maharlika highway in Barangay Mayapyap, Cabanatuan City is now passable.   Likewise, the Sta. DPWH-NCR begins clearing, cleanup ops in ‘Karding’ aftermath

All nine district engineering offices (DEOs) of the Department of Public Works and Highways – National Capital Region (DPWH-NCR) on Monday have started cleaning and clearing operations amid improved weather conditions in the aftermath of Super Typhoon Karding.   In a Facebook post, the DPWH-NCR said early maintenance activities such as declogging of inlets; cleaning of debris/fallen trees, and culverts; hauling and clearing of spoils; and pothole patching are being done throughout the region.   The situation in low-lying areas in the region such as Roxas Boulevard and España Boulevard in Manila and the cities of Marikina and Quezon City

3 Marines hurt in Lanao Sur ambush

A security alert has been raised in the Lanao del Sur coastal town of Picong following an ambush that injured three Marine troopers, a military official said Monday.   Lt. Colonel Serge Ronquillo, commander of the 2nd Marine Battalion Landing Team (MBLT-2), said a team of soldiers on board a military vehicle was patrolling in its area of operation when ambushed at about 6 p.m. Sunday.   “A pursuit operation is going on,” Ronquillo said in a radio interview.   He identified the injured soldiers as Privates First Class Stephen Saragal, Elijah Taccas, and Private Romy Torallo Jr., all of

5 rescuers swept away by floodwaters found dead in Bulacan

Five members of the Bulacan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) were found dead in San Miguel town in the aftermath of Super Typhoon Karding Monday.   Governor Daniel Fernando on Monday morning identified the five rescuers as George Agustin, Narciso Calayag Jr., Troy Justin Agustin, Jerson Resurreccion and Marby Bartolome.   He said the victims were in Sitio Galas, Barangay Camias in San Miguel town and about to conduct a search and rescue mission when rushing floodwater carried them away.   The PDDRMO members were deployed around 4 a.m. to rescue some residents in the village and

MMDA inspects pumping station after ‘Karding’ onslaught
