12 Dead, 41 Injured in Davao Region Earthquake Aftermath

Davao city: At least 12 people have died, 41 were injured, and 13 remain missing following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Maasim, Sarangani and triggered landslides in parts of Davao Region on June 8, the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) said Thursday.

According to Philippines News Agency, RDRRMC 11 (Davao) reported that the tremor affected 80 barangays, displacing 12,359 families, or 52,637 individuals. Of these, 874 families are staying in four evacuation centers, while seven families are outside evacuation sites. The quake destroyed 55 houses and damaged 966 houses and 106 infrastructure facilities, with estimated losses of PHP500,000.

"Power outages were reported in six barangays of Jose Abad Santos, while damage was sustained at Mabila and Balangonan ports," RDRRMC-11 stated. Humanitarian assistance worth PHP13.2 million has been provided to affected communities, including food and non-food items from the regional offices of the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Office of Civil Defense.

Response clusters remain activated, with continuous coordination, monitoring, and relief operations underway in affected communities, RDRRMC-11 added.
