1 Dead, 1 Injured in Bicol Due to Super Typhoon Uwan

Bicol: The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Bicol reported that one person died and another was injured due to Super Typhoon Uwan (international name Fung-wong), which hit the region on Sunday.

According to Philippines News Agency, OCD-Bicol spokesperson Gremil Alexis Naz stated that both victims were from Catanduanes province. The fatality was identified as a 48-year-old man from San Jose Poblacion, Viga town, who was swept away by flash floods after returning home to check on his livestock during the height of the storm. This information was provided by the Catanduanes Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC). Naz noted that the reported death will be validated by the Management of the Dead and Missing Persons (MDM) cluster.

Meanwhile, a 51-year-old man from Barangay Batalay, Bato, was injured after falling from the roof while securing his house in preparation for the typhoon. He was transported to the Eastern Bicol Medical Center for treatment.

The OCD recorded that 70,053 families, or 247,883 individuals, are currently staying in 5,329 evacuation centers for safety, while 45,611 families, or 152,801 individuals, are residing with their relatives. Additionally, 125 barangays remain flooded, and 46 roads and bridges are impassable to all types of vehicles.

Power outages have been reported in 67 cities and municipalities, with 14 areas experiencing communication disruptions and four areas facing water supply interruptions. In total, Super Typhoon Uwan has affected 181,855 families, or 652,768 individuals, across 2,047 barangays in the Bicol Region, according to Naz.
